Being able to give something back to our community is really important to us which is why we are doing our bit to raise money for local charity Elizabeth House.
Elizabeth House day centre in Cookham provides a place where the old, the frail and the lonely can find companionship and also get a good meal every day. Its doors are open five days a week through the year. With more than 200 members, it provides up to 30 people with an excellent lunch every day, organises activities and outings, gives people the opportunity to chat to friends old and new and to take advantage of the range of services such as a hairdresser, a podiatrist and even computer training at reasonable rates on site.
With only four part time staff, Elizabeth House costs around £70,000 a year to run and is almost entirely dependent on nearly 100 local volunteers and on donations from the local community.
Since June 2015, Spice Merchant Cookham has raised £2,600 by donating 50p from the price of every dessert sold and adding an optional 50p to every bill so that diners, too, can contribute, if they wish.
